BEST AGE TO GET A FERRET : -

THIS DEPENDS ON WHETHER YOU HAVE KEPT THEM BEFORE AND HOW USED TO THEM YOU ARE. MOST PEOPLE WANT KITS COZ THEY LOOK CUTER BUT IF YOUVE NEVER KEPT THEM BEFORE YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITH A SLIGHTLY OLDER ONE . AT LEAST A FEW MONTHS OLD . THEN THEY WILL HAVE LESS ENERGY , GENERALLY BE ALOT CALMER AND WILL NOT NIP LIKE KITS DO .

HOUSING ?

I WOULDNT RECOMEND KEEPING THEM INDOORS !!! I NO THAT SOUNDS WEIRD BUT I DO ACTUALLY KNOW A LASS THAT DOES. ITS NOT NICE !! LOL
HOUSING FERRETS IS SIMPLE A SIMPLE RABBIT HUTCH WOULD DO THE TRICK . SO LONG AS THEY HAVE PLENTY OF RM TO PLAY AND STRETCH THEIR LEGS . PRETTY MUCH SAME AS ALL CAGED ANIMALS . THEY NEED A HUTCH WHICH HAS SEPERATE BED AND RUNS . SO THEY CAN PICK A CORNER IN THE RUN FOR "LITTER" . SO THEN THEY ARE NOT DOING THEIR BUSINESS IN THEIR BEDS .
FERRETS LOVE TUBES TO RUN THROUGHT AND PLAY IN . THEY ARE VERY PLAYFULL BY NATURE . IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT FUNDS THEY LOVE HUTCHES WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS FOR THEM TO EXPLORE BUT THIS IS NOT ESSENTIAL .
WOTEVA KIND OF HUTCH YOU DECIDE TO HOUSE THEM IN MAKE SURE IT IS BIG ENOUGH FOR THE NUMBER OF FERRETS YOU HAVE .

SMELL ??

I WILL ADMIT THAT FERRETS DO HAVE THEIR OWN SMELL . IT ISNT THAT BAD ITS JUST SLIGHTLY MUSKY . CASTRATED AND SPAYED FERRETS DONT SMELL AS MUCH . BUT PROVIDING YOU CLEAN THEM OUT REGUARLY YOU SHOULDN'T NOTICE IT ANYWAY .
ALTOUGH I WOULD RECCOMEND WEARING AN OLD JUMPER OR SOMETHING WHILST HANDLING THEM .

GENERAL HUSBANDRY
FERRETS WILL LITTER IN A CERTAIN CORNER THIS MUST BE CLEANED OUT DAILY .THEN YOU WILL ONLY NEED TO CLEAN THEIR WHOLE HUTCH OUT EVERY COUPLE OF WKS . TRY TO LEAVE SOME OLD SAWDUST IN THEIR BED IN ORDER TO LEAVE SOME OF THEIR SCENT .
MAKE SURE YOU HANDLE THEM DAILY IN ORDER TO HELP BOND WITH THEM AND STOP THEM BECOMING WILD AND BITING MORE .

FEEDING
THEIR ARE PLENTY OF COMPLETE DRY FERRET FOODS AVALIABLE ON THE MARKET . THESE WILL DO AS THEY ARE COMPLETE AND THEY WILL GIVE YOUR FERRET EVERYTHING IT NEEDS . BUT I ALSO GIVE MINE A RABBIT OR 2 AS A TREAT FOR THEM .

JILLS
JILLS (FEMALES) HAVE THE PROBLEM THAT THEY REALLY NEED TO BE MATED IF THEY ARE NOT SPAYED.
BASICALLY THEY WILL COME INTO SEASON IN EARLY SPRING. THE WAY TO SEE THIS IS THAT THE VULVA WILL BE SWOLLEN . ONCE SHES IN HEAT SHE WONT GO OUT OF IT UNTIL THE END OF THE BREEDING SEASON UNLESS SHE IS MATED . IF YOU DONT WANT KITS WAYS AROUND THIS ARE TO MATE HER WITH A VASECTOMISED HOB OR TO TAKE HER TO THE VETS AND THEY WILL GIVE HER A HORMONE INJECTION. IF YOU DONT DO ANYTHING AND LEAVE HER TILL THE END OF THE SEASON SHE COULD BECOME VERY ILL DEVELOPING SOMETHING CALLED APLASTIC ANAEMIA. THIS COULD POSSIBLY KILL HER.
